John Clare's revision page on Britain in WWII. Consists of brief study notes for exam revision purposes. Very useful. Has useful links to sites about areas other than Britain.  

The Learning Curve site on WWII. Many useful activities in here.

The Spartacus encyclopedia of WWII.

The History Learning site. Very comprehensive with a good index and links to all sorts of subjects. Easy to read (and get lost in).

A collection of WWII cartoons by Dr. Seuss.

The home page of the BBC website on WWII. Films, animated maps, documents, simulations etc. Lots of good stuff.

Books:

Keegan, John The Second World War Penguin Books, New York, 1989. An absolutely first class account of the war, quite easy to read.

Mowat, Farley, And No Birds Sang. Mowat's autobiography of his time as a captain in the Canadian army during the Italian campaign. A good memoir.

Heller, Joseph, Catch-22. One of the great satirical anti-war novels. Yossarian knows that you can get out of the army if you are insane, but if you are sane enough to apply to get out on the grounds of insanity, you're sane enough to stay in.

Mailer, Norman, The Naked and the Dead. Set in the Pacific theatre, this is Mailer's very cynical take on the heroics of warfare.
